Your Most Intimate Object? – Your Pillow.

Updated: Mar 27, 2019

It envelops and cradles you during your most vulnerable hours… and knows your night time dreams and secrets.

The one object that we allow to invade your deepest personal space and expose ourselves to being unprotected and susceptible.

We willingly press it to our faces and allow it to cradle our heads with complete trust it is on our side.

We surrender our minds, our emotions and bodies to it …never questioning if it will keep our secrets and our heads and necks safe until we resurface again in the morning.

It is how we depart from and return to our waking hours.

Your Pillow ... Yours

We are reluctant to share ours and hesitant to share another’s. It is as personal an object as one can possess and we spend a helpless third of our lives surrendered and buried into it. Does anything or anyone else share such closeness? Who does not have reservations when laying our heads on a hotel pillow…. Questioning its checkered past? It does not belong to us after all.

You Complete Me

As with most of the most important things we take for granted… our pillow is never given the attention it deserves. There are so many aspects to consider when deciding where we lay our heads… yet few of us research the importance of our relationship with our pillow OR spend the time finding the one that suits our needs.

Let me help with this - your pillow is only as important as your sleep. And sleep is the single most important thing we do in the 8 hours of our 24-hour cycle. That is 2920 hours out of our year! That is a lot of time spent dreaming (and drooling) with one thing.

Meeting Your Needs in the Bedroom

Do you know that we can live longer without food than we can without sleep? It is the foundation of our wellbeing and it is time we realize we cannot just sleep with any old pillow that we find in our bed.

It is time we get a little discriminating.

It is essential to have a checklist than ensures that this soft place we land on and dream on (and other night time things) meets all our needs in the bedroom:

1. Proper Neck Support.

If you have a neck support pillow that is too high or too low for you, you will not be in proper spinal alignment. Few people are aware of that fact that when your neck muscles lack neck support they also lack the ability to relax which can prolong your ability to surrender to sleep.

2. High Quality Stuff

Do your research in making sure your pillow purchase is one that has top quality materials. 100% SILK , Bamboo, Tencel covers with Oeko-Tec certification, quality memory foam that mets all standards of health and adding technology such as COPPER ion infused fabrics to enhance skin health, anti-microbial properties and anti-inflammatory/healing benefits.

3. Sleep on a Cloud Feeling

High quality memory foam pillows are the most sleep inducing pillows as they allow your head to feel weightless as it is enveloped into the pillow. A Turkish study published by the Scandinavian Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery shows that a regular bed pillow puts pressure on your skin, which reduces circulation and breaks down collagen. Memory foam absorbs pressure giving you a floating on air sensation.

4. Hypoallergenic.

Sleeping with your face in a pillow that contains allergens will mean you wake up with symptoms you didn’t go to bed with. Having your eyes, sinuses and airway bombarded by irritants throughout your night can only further compromise your need for quality sleep.

5. No Bugs

More and more science is pointing to Demodex Mites / Dust mites and their link to Acne, Rosacea and Blepharitis (puffy eyes).

6. Proper Airway positioning

A pillow that props your head forward, pushing your chin towards your chest closes your airway. This decreased airway can contribute to snoring and mild sleep apnea.

When we developed the enVy pillow we made sure we kept all these factors in mind, which is why we always ask, “Are you sleeping with the best?”. Something as intimate as the pillow you sleep on should be!
